Tabulating medical record xls with misaligned values
I'd rather not share any parts of the file online but, I was given an xls file of patient records and it has headers spread out across rows and columns, with gaps between the values too. It looks like a delimiter problem occurred when the person exported the records. Not sure if this is a common problem but would someone know how to tabulate the values into a coherent, readable format?
Hello everyone! My name is Lorenzo and I’m 24 years old. I recently (a month ago) started my weight loss journey (the starting point was 80 kg for 1,65 m) and now I weight ~74 kg. I go to the gym regularly (three days a week) and I don’t follow a specific diet (I cut out all junk food and not necessary sugar, and decreased my portion) and I wanted to have some advice with a product that I want to try: XLS medical. Does it work? Someone of you has experience, both bad or good, with this product? On Amazon, it doesn't have a lot of good reviews, but I don’t trust them mainly because I think that most of the time behind a 1-star review is hidden a person who didn't do any exercise or hasn't changed his/her diet while using it. Of course I don't intend to use it as a shortcut, or as a miraculous medicine, just as a little help! I’m happy with my journey but you now, if I can lose something more I don’t complain ahahah Thanks in advance ✌️
I am 24F, 5'4", 67kg and i want to lose 11.2kg to be in the middle of my BMI category. I am on some fairly hefty mental health medication and it has greatly increased my appetite... All I can liken it to is having the munchies 24/7. I fight this the best I can but I have gain ~8kg in ~ a year. I have never struggled with my weight and it's really bothering me. All I want to do is stuff my face all the time, I always fancy food, I am never not hungry and it's making me feel really crappy when I give in. I am training to be a personal trainer and love working out, although I have been unable to for nearly 3 months due to illness, and I am really stressed about going on my practical days and being judged. I also want to slim down as I like feeling as fit, well and healthy as I possibly can. I am still going through therapy and emotional regulation classes and these make my self control go out of the window, other than that I am ok at sticking to WeightWatchers. I was wondering if anyone has tried XLS medical as I think if I get going with some loss on the scales it will help me stick to it better. Any response gratefully received.
I’ve seen ads for this for a while, and it apparently reduces calorie intake from carbs, sugars and fats. Could this be helpful for someone with PCOS? I’ve heard it’s good for PCOS sufferers to avoid carbs and sugars, so would it be good to take this as an extra help if keto isn’t sustainable for you? Anyone here used this and have any reviews?

XLS-Medical Carb Blocker - Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts?
I saw this in the local pharmacy and since it was cheap enough I bought it. I figured what the hell. The basic concept is to take 2 tablets before every meal, and it stops the body from absorbing carbohydrates. Depending on its efficacy, I think it's the sort of thing that would be of interest to keto dieters. Note, I'm not saying this is some sort of cheat pill, like oh goodie now I can have pizza. EDIT : So what I'm seeing a lot of in this thread is no information and lots of negative opinion. Good to know.

[Acne] My Routine for Getting Rid of Mild Body Acne (Bacne) and Fading Scars/Dark Spots, Plus Extra Product Recs
Originally posted this in another subreddit by accident, so re-posting here! I’ve been dealing with acne on my back, chest, upper arms, and (only occasionally) my butt basically since puberty. It’s gotten a lot better as I’ve gotten older, but by my mid-to-late 20s I was still dealing with regular break-outs in those areas that usually involved having between 1-5 blemishes on my chest, on each shouldeupper arm/between shoulder blades, and on my lower back (so between 3-15 pimples throughout my back/shoulders/arms/chest/butt) at any given time. Pretty mild compared to others here, but still frustrating af. It took a lot of trial-and-error, but over the last 2 years I think I’ve finally built a good skincare routine that has me down to 0-2 blemishes on my body at any given time, and most often I’m completely clear everywhere. Unfortunately I have no B&A pics so you’ll have to take my word for it. I really appreciated being able to see examples of other people's skincare routines while trying to build my own, and it sucks that it's so hard to find routines for the body compared to the face. So I thought I’d make a post about my own body skincare routine, just in case it’s helpful to others with similar skin issues. Take what works for you, and let me know if you notice anything I could tweak about my routine! First, some facts about me that may affect my skin type, as I have no idea how to categorize the skin on my body compared to the skin on my face: I’m 29/white/cis female. I’ve had body acne of various severities since puberty, and it’s definitely affected by my hormones though also by general bacteria, etc. I’m sweatier than the average girl; for example, sometimes while sleeping I’ll wake up to a damp shirt from overheating or because I had an anxiety dream. My haiskin tend to be oily, so I usually have to wash my hair around 3 times a week. My face is combination/dehydrated (depending on climate, living habits, etc). The only areas of my body that tend to have dry skin are my hands and feet, even when I neglect to use lotion. Next, some general lifestyle tips that have helped with my body acne. I've seen this advice in other posts on this sub, but just in case you haven't:
Always shower asap after getting sweaty (i.e. gym, sex, night sweats, etc). In a pinch, a body wipe will do. But showering is best.
Error on the side of changing your shirts more often. I have a lot of sleep shirts and try to only wear them 1-2 times max before washing them. I wash my bras regularly (gentle cycle and hang dry to keep them from falling apart) and wear them 2-4 times between washes, depending on activity level as I break out around my bra straps/band.
Wash sheets at least 1x per week. I fail at this all the time but it does help.
In the shower, wash your body last. Shampoos/conditioners running down my back can break me out, but don’t if I wash that area after.
Anyways, onto the current routine. I don’t really have an AM/PM routine. I shower once a day (whenever I have time, morning or night) and apply products after the shower. STEP 1: Exfoliate in the shower
The skin on your back/shoulders/arms/chest/butt is much tougher than on your face, so you need to exfoliate really well to make sure the rest of your products can actually sink into the skin. I do this by using both a physical exfoliator and a chemical exfoliator. There are lots of different ways to do this, but what works best for me so far is to scrub those areas using:
After scrubbing myself and getting sudsy, I let the body wash sit on my skin for at least 2 minutes. THIS ACTUALLY IS IMPORTANT. I used acne body washes for years but they never worked that well until I took this advice seriously and actually took the time to let them sit before rinsing off. Again, this is because the skin in these areas is so tough.
This is also why it’s important to exfoliate those areas AFTER washing your hair and the rest of your body with your other soaps/products. After exfoliating, your skin is ready to start soaking up products, and you don’t want it soaking up crap that’ll make it break out like whatever’s in your shampoo.
As you can see, the cleanser I use is actually marketed for using on your face. It has 4% benzoyl peroxide (for chemical exfoliation), niacinamide (for lightening dark spots from old scars), and ceramides (for general hydration). Most folks use higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide in their acne body washes, but I think 4% works great for me because it’s being paired with the physical exfoliator. Plus I love the other ingredients.
TIP: I usually use a different soap for the parts of my body that don’t have acne, as using a face wash on your body can be expensive and the rest of my body is fine using normal soap. The exfoliator wash cloth works great everywhere though, especially on your legs/bikini line before you shave. DON’T use the benzoyl peroxide wash in your armpits. It does help with ingrown hairs, but it’s caused staining to the armpits of my shirts when I sweat even hours after I shower. Salicylic acid is better if you need a chemical exfoliator in your armpits to get rid of ingrown hairs since it doesn’t stain like that.
TIP: if you use an electric toothbrush, you can use its 2-minute timer to brush your teeth while letting the cleanser sit for the perfect amount of time. Sometimes I’ll also just turn off the shower and shave my legs while letting the cleanser sit on my body for way longer than my usual 2 minutes. I’ve noticed no real difference when letting it sit for longer than 2 minutes, so that’s just me being lazy and wanting to wash the shaving cream and body wash off at the same time.
STEP 2: Dry off and get ready to apply the products
TIP: Benzoyl peroxide cleansers will stain your towels no matter how well you rinse afterwards. I’ve heard white towels might not stain, but I’ve actually managed to stain those too so who knows. I’ve accepted this and use stained towels.
STEP 3: Use hydrocolloid bandages for spot treatments
This step is specifically for blemishes, not the whole acne-prone area. I still use actual lotions/serums/etc for spot treatments sometimes (see product recs at the end of this post), but honestly I see the best results when I use the following hydrocolloid bandages:
For any healing spots that I've already picked at/extracted, I use a regular hydrocolloid bandage. I’ve used a bunch of different kinds, and as long as they aren’t medicated they’re generally all the same regardless of brand. Currently I use Cosrx Acne Pimple Patches
When I say “medicated”, I mean a microneedle hydrocolloid bandage with added ingredients that will dry out the blemish (salicylic acid, tea tree oil, etc).
The microneedle bandages are the most expensive hydrocolloid bandages, but they’re the only ones that will work on pimples that haven’t been extracted yet. They make medicated bandages without the microneedles, but I’ve found that without the microneedles the medication doesn’t penetrate the skin on my body deeply enough to do anything unless the skin on the pimple is broken (i.e. you picked at it or extracted it). I leave the microneedle bandage on at least 8 hrs before either taking it off or replacing it with a new bandage. I use the microneedle patch until the blemish goes away, or it comes to a head and then can be extracted. I’ve found this usually happens within a day, maybe 2 if the spot is really stubborn.
If money’s tight, I just use one microneedle bandage and then switch to a spot treatment until the blemish clears/comes to a head, or I skip the microneedle bandage altogether and just use spot treatments. I think the bandages work slightly better than spot treatments, but I’m not rich so I usually save them for particularly stubborn/deep pimples.
If I have to extract the pimple, I cleanse/dry the area after and then leave a regular hydrocolloid bandage on as long as possible. I’ll usually only take them off to shower, then put a new one on until the spot has healed to the point that it’s no longer bleeding or scabby. Then it’s just a red/dark mark that I can work on lightening with the next few steps in my routine. If you wanna splurge and get a medicated version to help the spot heal, I suggest skipping the drying ingredients/microneedles and instead find something with healing ingredients like cica and/or brightening ingredients like niacinamide. However, I’ve found the unmedicated version works just fine.
I do this step before applying all the other products because the bandages don’t stick as well to skin that has product on it.
This is the last step that includes my butt. I rarely get any acne there, and what little I did get has pretty much gone away since I started my exfoliation routine in the shower.
To apply, I’ve used resuable cotton rounds as well as a combination of this empty roller bottle and rubbing/patting it in with my hands. I haven't noticed one way working better than the other, but the roller doesn’t involve laundry so I like it better personally.
This step was a game changer for me, and is actually what finally got my skin to the point that I wanted to make this post. I’m not a scientist so I don’t know exactly why this worked so well, but I think it just helps tone the skin so the other products work better, and the witch hazel does a great job clearing any leftover bacteria as well as addressing inflammation and making me less oily. It’s also slightly hydrating, which is nice.
There’s a bunch of different scents, and an unscented version. I think they all work the same honestly, so unless you’re sensitive to scents just pick whatever smells nice to you. I like the rose myself.
I use this for my face, and randomly decided to start using it on my chest when I noticed some very light fine lines there (I’m a side sleeper, ugh). After a bit of purging for around a week, my chest basically stopped breaking out entirely and the fine lines have almost disappeared. I didn’t have many dark spots on my chest (it’s slightly less acne prone than my back), but all of them are now gone. These results have me thinking I may start experimenting with retinol on my back, so maybe I’ll update this post if that ends up working out for me.
Usually I don’t apply anything else to my chest after this. It doesn’t seem to need anything else except minor spot treatments once in a while.
This is the first step I use to fade scars, dark spots, red spots, etc. The hyaluronic acid also helps with hydration. I just drop a nickel-sized amount onto my hands and pat/rub the product all over my upper arms/shoulders/chest.
This the second step to fade scars, dark spots, red spots, etc, and I apply it the same way as the Alpha Arbutin after letting that product sit for about a minute. Both of these products fight hyperpigmentation in slightly different ways, so combining them is super effective. This product is also hydrating.
Both of these fading products can take up to a few months to really start working. I started seeing results pretty immediately, but it took at least a month to begin completely fading my dark spots.
Body sunscreen (and most products meant for the body instead of the face, tbh) tend to break me out. The sunscreen I use for my face (Biore Watery Gel) works fine on my body without breaking me out, but it’s too expensive to do that all the time, so this is my favorite cheaper option. Every sunscreen that works for my face seems to work for my body too, however.
I skip this step if my clothes cover these areas.
And that’s it! I know some folks might be wondering why I don’t use a moisturizer. All I can say is I have yet to find a moisturizer that doesn’t break me out on my back/shoulders/chest/butt. I’ve tried all the basics that have been suggested on this subreddit: super light moisturizers, moisturizers with salicylic acid in them (such as Cerave’s SA lotion), african black soap moisturizers (such as Shea Moisture’s and Nubian Heritage’s lotions), body oils (like pure jojoba oil)...all of it breaks me out. And honestly, my back/shoulders/chest seem to be perfectly well hydrated by my current moisturizer-free routine. I don’t have any dry skin, and actually get compliments from my partner on how soft my skin is in those areas all the time. So I just don’t bother with it. If retinol turns out to be too drying if/when I try it on the rest of my body, I’ll probably try a very light face moisturizer. Ok, onwards to other product recommendations. These are things that I’ve used that are pretty good/I didn’t hate, but didn’t work as well as the stuff I’m currently using. Cerave’s SA Lotion (or Cream, it’s the same but heavier) for Rough and Bumpy Skin
I do have tattoos on my upper arms that I need to put lotion on, and this breaks me out the least out of all the body lotions I mentioned trying. It doesn’t break my arms out much at all; generally it’s only an issue if I get it on my shoulders or use it on my mid/lower back. It’s also great for ingrown hairs on the rest of my body!
Works great as a spot treatment for my face and for mild acne on my body. I used to use this as a toner in place of the Thayer’s Witch Hazel, but I think that might have been overkill after the shower exfoliation and was potentially causing acne more than it was treating it by irritating my skin. Still, it’s a great product and you get a ton for the price.
What I use as a spot treatment on my body when the bandages fail or I run out. Honestly any 10% Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment will probably work, this is just the one I have because it was cheap at my local drug store. Works fine, but does stain so I have to make sure I’m wearing a shitty shirt when I use it.
This is the product I use after shaving my bikini line. It’s got a bunch of exfoliants in it including salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid as well as some brighteners and antioxidants I can’t pronounce. I used to use this as a toner in place of the Thayer’s Witch Hazel, but had similar issues as when I was using TO Glycolic Acid. I still use it on my butt sometimes though if I get a spot or if I waited extra long to shower after working out. Great product, but expensive. The link is to the actual website and is kinda weird in that it shows all the PFB products, as there's no individual page for each product. I haven't tried any of their other products personally.
I really like Vitamin C products for brightening on my face, but these are the only two Vit C products cheap enough that I can afford to use it on my body and both were way too drying/irritating for my skin. The Ascorbyl solution was slightly less drying/irritating, and if I ever find a moisturizer I can use on my body then I may try adding that in to help fade dark spots, etc. But for now I’m happy without it.
These work great to help heal a blemish after extraction if you can’t use a hydrocolloid bandage. It’s basically a first aid ointment specifically for healing acne. I usually use this if I can’t hide a hydrocolloid bandage under my clothes. The color-correcting one is green and is meant to help hide the redness of the spot (unfortunately just for medium and fair skin tones) and while I can’t tell if it actually hides the color that well, in terms of healing it does seem to work as well as the regular. There’s also an orange version for dark spots that I haven’t tried.
So that's what I've got so far. Like I said, my routine isn't perfect, so please let me know if you notice something I could adjust or change. I'm always looking for ways to make my routine cheaper, shorter, more efficient, and better for the environment. EDIT: some formatting fixes/small spelling and grammar issues
